It is with deep sadness…

It is with deep sadness and a broken heart that I write this. Scott unexpectedly lost his Dad on February 10th. Scott put together this video for the memorial service.

To Dad and Papa Tractor, we love you so very, very much. You will be dearly missed!

Things were definitely stirring in our home the night before Santa came. Getting the girls ready for bed was especially exciting for both the girls and us knowing that Santa was near.

And then it happened! Santa came and he left some very fun toys for the girls.

Avery wakes up very early so we heard her tinkering around and this is what we found when we snuck out. She was already playing with her kitchen:

My dear friend, Phoebe, did a photo shoot of us back in October. We drove out to Sealy to an old mill so we could get some cool contrast and I’m really thrilled with the results. I love the colors! Avery was quite a trooper allowing me to change her several times…. Ha! I couldn’t resist.

Here are some of my favorites:

Appreciation

You know sometimes it is easy to take things for granted!   I try not to but with a life that becomes busy, busy, busy, sometimes it is important to take a step back and evaluate.   My husband deserves a special appreciation!    He has been so very helpful and supportive to me and I love him very much.   This past weekend, he kept Avery for four days without ever complaining about it.  In fact, he was really excited about being able to have special time with her.   I’m so thankful that he is such a hands-on Dad.   With the stressful planning and designing of a new home, he has been really great about compromising with me on what will be best for us which makes it so much easier.  If you have ever built a house, you know how very stressful it can be and agreeing on things makes it easier!   Yesterday, he helped me clean up the house for our showing by actually doing it all for me while I was walking with Phoebe.   I was so impressed and then last night he surprised me with flowers.   I appreciate Scott so much for the little and big things he does!  They do not go unnoticed.

Last weekend for Memorial Day weekend, we traveled to Port Aransas, Texas to spend the holiday weekend at the beach.  We left early Friday morning and met up with Mariam, Elizabeth, and Brian at Prasek’s for lunch just outside of El Campo because they left slightly earlier than us.  Avery got to see Papa on the way because we stopped in Victoria at his work to pick up the pack and play.  Little did we know the house we were staying at already had one.    Then when we got to Rockport, as we were traveling through, we got a ticket.   Scott and I were both equally upset because we were super mindful of the speed limits the entire trip (there were so many cops along the highways) and somehow, we didn’t see the school zone flashing lights.   I think we didn’t see them because there were lots of RV’s all around us so how would you?   Anyways, that will be a whopper of a ticket.  Then we stopped in Aransas Pass for groceries and later that night Scott found out he left his wallet there.  Ha!  What a day for Scott!  Luckily, my parents were headed to the beach on Saturday and agreed to stop by and pick it up on the way to come get Avery.  My mom really wanted to keep Avery for the weekend so they loaded up with Grandma R and Hillary and drove all the way to Port A Saturday afternoon to come get her.  She absolutely loved the beach sand and all!   The whole weekend ended up being really nice.   We rented a house with Mariam, Elizabeth, Brian, Z, and Allison.   On Friday we cooked hamburgers and then on Saturday and Sunday evening went out to dinner.  Saturday night we all went to Sharkey’s for a little dancing 🙂  That was fun!  We came back through Shiner on Monday to pick up Avery and had BBQ ribs waiting for us at Nana and Papa’s house (my Mom and Dad).    How nice is that?  Dad made some yummy ribs and Mom had her famous potato salad.

This past weekend we headed to Shiner to spend time with our family. On Saturday we decided to go to Gruene to walk around the cute shops and have a day of fun with the girls. There’s nothing better than an impromptu day trip to one of the many cute Texas towns with the girls! It was really HOT but so much fun! We spent the whole time trying to find a cute hat for Avery to protect her head from the sun. After going through them all, the very last little shop we went in, we found a baby cap. I ended up getting it for her anyway eventhough we were headed on our way out. While we were out toodling in Gruene, Dad and Scott decided they weren’t going to sit around and ended up taking the boat out to the lake and going fishing.

On Sunday, we went to lunch with the family and headed back to Houston. Scott had to hurry and get home so he could fly out to Chicago that evening for an early Monday flight to Wisconsin.

This was on Sunday on the way to lunch. She was SO tired. Check out all those toys. I have them in that little organizer so when I’m driving, I can just reach back, grab one and give it to her. It’s quite convenient. I even use the water bottle as entertainment. She likes to shake the water.

What an exciting day!  Today is Avery’s Big 1st Birthday.    I can’t believe it’s been 1 year to the day that we first got to meet our little sweet pea.  Oh, how she has blessed our lives in ways we could have never imagined.  We celebrated her birthday party this past weekend, and despite the terrible weather and pouring rain, she had a wonderful time.   The party was planned to be outdoors, but my parents have a great shop with lots of space so we moved it indoors.  All of our family and friends came to celebrate Avery’s special day.   Avery really enjoyed being able to eat cake and have pink lemonade.   She was a huge fan of the sugar :)!     Thank you so much to all of our family and friends that came to Avery’s birthday, despite the bad weather.

Today, Avery’s real birthday, will actually be a bit low key.  I have a lot of work and packing to do before we leave tomorrow morning to Cabo.  We are all very excited about the trip.  Since we are taking Dee and Avery, I have to pack carefully because we don’t want to go over the new baggage allowances.   We are going to start Avery on a new milk today (which may come back to bite us).  She has been on ready-made Similac for her whole first year and now we want her to graduate to milk-based product and since we are traveling, I bought the Nestle Good Start for Toddlers which is a powder yesterday.  We should have started it a week or so ago, but I was so distracted by birthday planning that I put all thoughts of this trip off until yesterday.   I hope everything goes smoothly!

Busy Bees

March has flown by! It seems I blinked and March is gone. I’ve been meaning to post about a few things and I’m falling behind 🙂 Here’s a quick recap:

A few weekends ago, Nana came up to Houston to take Avie to the farm. Avery got to have a weekend with Nana and Papa which I know they were very happy about. Mommy and Daddy had vacation at home. It’s interesting how the most simple pleasures take on new meaning when you don’t have a baby to worry about. Since we weren’t on Avery’s schedule, we got to linger at El Tiempo and drink our margaritas slowly. How relaxing! We slept in late on Saturday which was super nice and spent a whole day doing leisurely activities. Then on Sunday, we met up with Mom, Dad, and Hillary in Columbus to get our Sweet Pea back. We certainly missed her!

Last week on Monday, we finally had a nice weather day after a cold and rainy week so we headed to the Houston Rodeo and Livestock show. We took Dee and Avery. Wow, what a gorgeous day! Because it was Spring Break, it was pretty crowded. It was so much fun to see all the animals, especially when she got to pet the little rabbits, guinea pigs, and calves. She took her little pointer finger and pet them back and forth….so cute. She squealed and laughed.

Then later on in the week on Thursday, Nana and Hillary stopped in to visit after a day trip to Lauberge. They decided to enjoy their Spring Break and do a little gambling in Louisiana. They came that night to spend the night with us. Avery had a fun surprise Friday morning when she saw them here.

This past weekend, Scott was Daddy Daycare. He’s been traveling a lot lately and I needed a girl getaway so I headed to Austin with Mariam to stay at the Lost Pines Hyatt. Scott is an awesome dad so I didn’t worry at all. They had a great time together and went to Brian and Elizabeth’s BBQ party on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Mariam and I got a little R&R at the spa and also soaked up the sun by the pool while sipping on Mojitos in Austin. We both brought our cameras and only ended up with one picture. Ha! We should have taken before and after pictures of going to the pool. Before: white as snow! After: red as lobsters! We had an awesome time. In fact, I love the resort so much that I want to go again soon with Scott and Avery. It’s a great family place. They have everything: spa, golf, kayaking, horseback riding, pool with slide and lazy river, bike riding, zip lining, rock climbing, live bands, and so much more and it is close.
