I have been having the worst pains in my neck, shoulders, back, arms, and hands for the last two weeks. It felt like a pinched nerve but with constant pain. I’ve decided to share this because I learned some really interesting information that I believe will be helpful to many, especially since so many people sit in front of the computer all day like I do. First, my pain was caused by my muscles essentially being glued together due to lack of oxygen and water getting to them from the way I sit all day. On top of that, dehydration caused the problem to be much worse. I know I’m not the only one that suffers from this. The pain at night was dreadful! I basically couldn’t sleep at all because it was so bad. No one should have to live with that much pain. First of all, I’m lucky because I live in Houston where we have some of the best medical care providers. I was referred to a Dr. who gave me B12 shots into all my back muscles which basically unglues them. I felt like I was hit by a train for several hours after that. I did that on Monday and I feel like a new woman today! He also told me I’m drinking water all wrong. I said, “Ok, then enlighten me.” He told me 1 sip of 3 oz. every thirty minutes. Drinking too much at one time dehydrates you because you pee it all out or not enough water dehydrates you for obvious reasons. He also recommended I take MSM which I had already been given by my chiropractor. Look up the benefits of MSM. It is very interesting. I have allergies to sulfa drugs and he told me that is because I don’t have enough sulfur in my body. Apparently, sulfur is an essential mineral required by your body. That is something I didn’t know. The MSM will also replace that besides doing all the other great things it is supposed to do. I learned a lot in my little visit yesterday and today I’m pain free, plus I got a full night sleep last night. Maybe this will help someone else.

Avery at 16 Months

Oh where to begin!  Avery has been learning so many new things. Also, did I mention Dee is back as of this past Monday?

Fun New Things Miss Avie Does:

  • Says /chit/ for chicken, /ba ba/ for berries and bottle (she LOVES blueberries), /da da/, /ma ma/ for mom and milk, /ball/, /shoe/, /nana/ (sometimes), /puh/ for puffs, /dow/ for down, /da ta/ for bathtime, /bapa/ for backpack, and a handful more I can’t think of right now.
  • Loves to Ring Around The Rosie; She comes and pulls on your fingers to tell you she wants to do it.
  • Blueberries are her new favorite food.  As of tonight, it may now be Bing Cherries.
  • She is extremely attached to her mama.
  • She loves to crawl on her daddy.
  • Anytime music plays, she dances.
  • There is no such thing as walking….just running!
  • Bathtimes are still her favorite time of the day.   She is a water baby.
  • She loves to play tug of war with Bentley with her stuffed animals and chase her around.   Bentley also loves this attention.
  • She is now taking one nap 12-2pm and sleeps 7pm-7am still.
  • One of her favorite things to do while I’m getting ready in the morning is brushing her teeth.
  • Something we never taught her but she picked up by mimicking us….she takes her rolled up tee tee diaper, opens up the cabinet, opens the diaper genie, puts it in, closes the lid, and closes the cabinet.   We were amazed!  I know.  It’s the little things!
  • If you ask her to line up, she will come line up and put her hands behind her back.  She learned this while at school.  She reminds me of a little duckling when she does this.
  • During her bathtime, she mimics me and pretends to put soap in her hands and wash her hair.  She likes to wash herself with her wash cloth.

I just love watching her do new things. It’s amazing how much she learns from watching.

Moody Gardens

Yesterday (Sunday), we decided to pack up and drive 40 minutes to the beach. Auntie Dawn came with us while Uncle Matt went to his class. Galveston has changed so much since the last time we were there this past spring. They have really done a lot of work cleaning it up and making it look nice after Hurricane Ike hit. Rather than actually going to the beach though, we decided to take Avery to Moody Gardens in Galveston where they have a really nice man-made beach with play areas full of sprinklers and slides and even a nice pool area. They also have a museum but we were too tired to go there after our fun-filled day in the water. Avery absolutely loved it! She had so much fun going down the slides and stepping on the water sprinklers that come out of the ground in different places. She was so tired when we left. She fell asleep within three minutes of being in the car before we ever got out of the parking lot. It was so much fun! We’ll have to do it again next summer.

This past weekend, we had company! Matt and Dawn came up to visit. Poor Matt had class during the day on Saturday for his PE exam in October so Dawn and I went to Teacher Heaven and had lunch at Pot Belly. I managed pick up a few things for Avery while Dawn had a whole list of things to get for her new class. When we got back, Scott and Avery were no where in the house so we trekked out to go see where they went and they were strolling up the drive and had been at the park. Scott and I went to the new HEB not far from us which I’m so very excited about. It has all the bells and whistles of Central Market but has the amazing selection of HEB combined. We picked up a couple of things for dinner which included watermelon margaritas, grilled steak and caramelized onion tacos, homemade guacamole, and heirloom tomoto salad. It was yummy! Here is the recipe for the grilled steak and avocado tacos from Food and Wine.

Appreciation

You know sometimes it is easy to take things for granted!   I try not to but with a life that becomes busy, busy, busy, sometimes it is important to take a step back and evaluate.   My husband deserves a special appreciation!    He has been so very helpful and supportive to me and I love him very much.   This past weekend, he kept Avery for four days without ever complaining about it.  In fact, he was really excited about being able to have special time with her.   I’m so thankful that he is such a hands-on Dad.   With the stressful planning and designing of a new home, he has been really great about compromising with me on what will be best for us which makes it so much easier.  If you have ever built a house, you know how very stressful it can be and agreeing on things makes it easier!   Yesterday, he helped me clean up the house for our showing by actually doing it all for me while I was walking with Phoebe.   I was so impressed and then last night he surprised me with flowers.   I appreciate Scott so much for the little and big things he does!  They do not go unnoticed.

The second annual Womance was this past weekend in Puerto Vallarta. We left on Thursday early in the morning and came back on Sunday. It was so nice to be able to go and relax with the girls on the beach. Upon arrival at the Villa Premiere, we were given a flute a champagne and a neck and upper back massage….a great way to start the vacation 🙂 Our entire stay was very quiet and it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. The resort was nice and the service was wonderful.

Mandy went away this weekend to Puerto Vallarta on a “Girls” trip. Avery and I missed her so much but we had a great time too. On Saturday we went down to Sargent for Tom’s birthday party. Tom & Lisa’s kids, Laci and Kirby played with Avery while I visited with the crowd. She had such a great time playing kickball that she completely wore herself out and it wasn’t 10 minutes after getting into the car to head home she passed out for the whole trip. Uncle Matt came to stay with us on Saturday night and we hung out and ordered Chuy’s and watch TV. Sunday Avery and I went to Aquarium World to check out the fish and the latest aquarium gadgets. She really loved seeing all the little colorful fish swimming around in all the tanks. She kept pulling me to look at the next one. On the way home we stopped at the park and played on the swings, slide and monkey bars. She was having a great time but it was way too hot to stay out. We really had a good time but we(I) can’t wait for Mommy to come back home and change a dirty diaper or two.
