Avery’s Nursery

(For Kelly’s Korner Home Tour, this post is a year old and before Avery was born.  My week has been so busy so I didn’t get a chance to take new pictures.  Avery’s room has a lot more stuff in it now so I’ll update this post with  more pictures this afternoon.  Thanks for visiting and I can’t wait to see all your little ones rooms 🙂 )

Avery’s nursery is a work in progress but mostly completed.  We are so excited about the outcome.  One of my first posts was about her room, and if you remember, we decided to convert one of our master closets into her room so she could be really close to us.  It turned out to be the perfect size!   It won’t be long now until her arrival 🙂

Her pictures frames are still empty but will be filled soon:

I made this board to showcase Avery’s pictures after she arrives:

As a new mom, I do quite a bit of research on what to buy, what is safe, and not to mention, I get plenty of information from other moms who want me to be informed.  Between BP in plastics, toxins in toys, vaccine concerns, and phthalates in our cosmetic products, my head is spinning.

If you have never heard of phthalates, they are chemicals found in a lot of our cosmetic products including shampoos, conditioners, makeup, lotions, and baby skin care products.  Research has shown that after use of these products, urine tests reveal high levels of these chemicals in baby’s systems.  Long-term effects are not certain but many researchers feel they lead to cancer and disease, as well as, reproductive issues.  Here is a helpful guide to finding how your favorite products rate and which ones are safest:  http://cosmeticsdatabase.com/.

As many of you have already heard, BP is another dangerous chemical that is leeched from plastic when it is exposed to high amounts or prolonged heat.  It is recommended never to microwave plastics unless they are BP-free.

When it comes to vaccines, this is a very sensitive subject and debates will continue until more research is done.  However, it is known that vaccines keep the majority of the population safe from diseases that are dangerous.  If more and more children go without vaccines, it poses a risk for the population as a whole.  I firmly believe continued research needs to be done on vaccines to make them safer.  However, it is a relief to know that thimerisol has been removed from all vaccines.  http://www.fda.gov/cber/vaccine/thimerosal.htm

These are just a few things that we, as parents, need to be informed about and it seems we continue to find out more and more dangers everyday.  In my opinion, the government needs to crack down on  chemicals that are allowed in products that are introduced into our daily lives.  Until then, we will continuously be exposed to them.

Spring Break Adventures

This week, my sister-in-law, Jennifer, niece, Bridgette, and two nephews, Colten and Connor, came to visit us during their Spring Break all the way from Abilene.   We had a great time at the Livestock Show on Wednesday and boy, did we get our exercise!  On Thursday, they went to the Children’s Museum and did some shopping at the Galleria.  Friday was beach day so we loaded up and headed to Galveston.  This was the kiddos first visit to the beach so we were very excited to take them.  It was a bit chilly, but with high spirits, they played in the water and had a great time.   We are so happy they came to visit!

33 Week Update

I am now 33 weeks along!    That means in 5 or 6 weeks, we should be blessed with our little Avery Grace.   Though babies are born everyday, she is such a miracle to us.  Being pregnant has been an amazing experience, though uncomfortable at times.   Knowing that there is a precious baby growing, breathing, and living inside my tummy is truly unexplainable.   She is still quite the kicker and she has recently developed hiccups.  In fact, she had hiccups about 5am this morning.   I can’t help but smile when she gets them, but they must be a bit uncomfortable for her since she starts wiggling around so much.   We have been consistently playing her Baby Mozart at night and sometimes I do her BabyPlus lessons (not very consistently, unfortunately.)    This weekend, we have the Birth Preparation Class which will be all day from 9am to 4pm.   I’m very excited about it, but it does seem like it will be a very long day.   Keep us in your prayers for a healthy baby and safe delivery!
